 conflict management : scenario
  conflict management:

The argument

You're a manager in a busy campaigning organisation. A conflict between a staff member and long-term volunteer has been developing. Trudy, the volunteer, wants more responsibility, while Chris wants to stay in control of the project that he has been working on for months. You've been working in your organisation's other office for the last two months. On your return it's clear that the situation has really deteriorated, both of them are very upset and say that they can't work with the other.

What do you do?

Read the transcript below and/or view the video, then select an option:

Trudy:

'He's been here for too long. He's just set in his ways. I've got some really good ideas. He just won't listen to me!'

Chris:

'She doesn't do what I tell her to do. She's way too argumentative. She doesn't even understand what's involved in this project!'

  1. Get them together to discuss what is going on

  2. Arrange to keep Chris and Trudy apart for a while

  3. Arrange to meet them both individually
