Evaluate the way your organisation makes decisions.
Choose appropriate methods for different decisions
and be creative about involving people.
Don't avoid decisions. Making decisions by default
or stealth is the worst strategy. Making clear and
well-planned decisions makes a good organisation into
a great one.
Involving people in the decision-making process
is vital, particularly when they're going to be affected
by the decisions that you make. Explain to people
what role consultation will play in making the final
decision.
In many circumstances, there isn't necessarily
a 'right' or 'wrong' decision.
Sometimes you may have to be firm about making
decisions, but be aware of why and when this is the
case.
People accept decisions they don't initially agree
with if they have been involved in the process and
understand why the decisions have been made.
Don't expect everyone to agree, and don't let disagreements
build into resentment. Spend time talking things through
with individuals.
Review decisions without being too hard on yourselves
and encourage an atmosphere of learning.
